Zachys Wine Auctions will hold the last New York auctions of the Spring on Wednesday, May 14th, Thursday, May 15th and Friday, May 16th. The weekend starts with An Evening Sale of Extraordinary Wines at 6:00PM on Wednesday, May 14th in the Private Room at DANIEL. This 198-lot session contains pristine high-end rarities selected especially for the "evening" format, with highlights including a full case of Bonnes Mares Comte Georges de Vogue 1971 in original carton and Zachys' first auction offering of 2005 Domaine de la Romanee Conti.

On Saturday April 26 in New York, the Christie's International Wine Department held the First Growth Bordeaux from An Exceptional Private Collection auction which featured the very best from the last 25 years of Bordeaux winemaking. Realizing $3.74 million, the sale was 99% sold by value, 97% sold by lot.

70-vintage Château d'Yquem sells for £368,000
Sotheby’s London recently announced that an extraordinary 70-vintage vertical collection from the famed Château d’Yquem, arguably the world’s greatest sweet wine, sold to a European Private Buyer for £368,000 (est. in excess of £100,000*) in a sale of Finest and Rarest Wines. Bidding was vigorous with the highly sought-after lot contested by two telephone bidders and a room bidder. When the hammer finally fell, the price far exceeded expectations.

Magnificent Bordeaux and Burgundy
Sotheby’s sale of Magnificent Bordeaux and Burgundy from an Important Private Cellar, featuring the greatest collection of rare Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines ever offered by Sotheby’s, sold for $6,134,035 (est. $3.7/5.5 million*) making it the auction house’s third highest value single-owner wine sale worldwide. The sale attracted the interest of an extremely diverse group of bidders---with representation from over 15 countries, including the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Germany, Japan, Hong Kong, Brazil, Venezuela, Singapore and Indonesia. Over 40% of the value of the sale was purchased by the top four buyers, who were all from Hong Kong.

Highlights from a Superlative Modern Cellar (Friday Evening Sale) Friday and Saturday, 14 & 15 March, 2008
Christie's New York recently conducted two wine auctions - a single-owner Evening Sale on Friday, and a day sale Saturday. Combined, the auctions totaled $3.54 million, and the results from the Friday night Superlative Modern Cellar were particularly robust, with the sale 99.8% sold by value and 99.4% sold by lot. Sotheby's New York sale of Finest and Rarest wines exceeds expectations
Sotheby’s March 15th sale of Finest and Rarest Wines totaled $3,964,565, well above expectations (est.$2.2/3 million). The sale featured The Cellar of V. Cheryl Womack, including 4,775 bottles from Bordeaux, Burgundy, California and Australia, as well as a quantity of large-format bottles – 81 magnums, 7 double magnums, 2 jeroboams and 3 imperials, which brought $1,678,900, above the high estimate of $1.6 million, and included five of the sale’s Top Ten lots.

Meteoric prices for rare vintages in Australia
Langton's fourth quarter wine auction sales reflected a strong demand for the world's greatest wines. These are unprecedented times with extraordinary results for great bottles yet sluggish demand for unproven or unknown wines. This hour-glass shaped market reflects a similar world-wide demand for property and art. Prices for great Bordeaux vintages have almost doubled over the last year. The demand for great Grand Cru Burgundy has driven prices into the world of esoteric numbers; just think of a price, double it and multiply by the number of your children. If you haven't any offspring, you may well be able to afford these extraordinary wines. A bottle of 1985 Henri Jayer Cros Parantoux fetched $8050 in November. 2003 Chateau Lafite-Rothschild which sold for $700 in January was achieving $2085 in December.
